Arterium participated in the conference "Ukraine-EU Integration: Healthcare"

Ukraine's integration into the EU requires persistent and large-scale work, including in the pharmaceutical industry. At the invitation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Arterium, together with other pharmaceutical companies, non-governmental organizations and representatives of the European Commission, discussed the potential of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical sector during the conference "Ukraine-EU Integration: Healthcare".
The panel discussion on the integration of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical sector into the European market was opened by Boriša Falatar, a representative of the EU Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority. He noted that the European Union is interested in cooperation with Ukraine, in particular with Ukrainian pharmaceutical manufacturers, to build a sustainable system of providing medicines to EU countries. “Last year, the European Union realized that one of the main threats is the shortage of critically important medicines. These are generics and antimicrobials that are manufactured in countries far from Europe. If we look at the production capacities of Ukrainian pharmaceutical companies, Ukraine is a very interesting and necessary partner for the EU, with a developed pharmaceutical market and close location,” Boriša Falatar emphasized.
In turn, Ukrainian pharmaceutical companies have something to offer European partners, namely, high-quality medicines manufactured according to European standards and unique experience of working in emergency situations.
Serhii Sur, Director of Arterium LTD, shared his vision of implementing the legislative part of the EU integration by the pharmaceutical sector during the panel discussion. He noted that representatives of business and government are moving side by side in this direction, having established a constructive dialogue and cooperation.
“To continue the work on the implementation of European requirements in the pharmaceutical sector of Ukraine, it is important to approve specific effective dates of the new Law “On Medicines” of 2022 for the provisions for which the implementation deadline is currently indicated as “30 months after the end of martial law”. The most important provision of the law, which should be implemented as soon as possible, is the creation of a new State Control Authority and the appointment of its leaders,” Serhii Sur emphasized.
According to Mykhailo Radutskyi, the Chairman of the Committee on National Health of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ukraine has already fulfilled 80% of the obligations of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in the field of healthcare, which is a significant achievement.
