Arterium transfers modern equipment for patients with COVID-19 diagnostics to the 8th Lviv City Clinical Hospital

As a part of its ongoing charity programme aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19, the Arterium Corporation has donated a bronchoscope to the 8th Lviv city clinical hospital. This is a modern tool that allows for the examination of the internal surface of the respiratory tract, the "pulmonary tree" – from the trachea to the smallest bronchi, which is very important for the treatment of patients with diseases of the bronchi and lungs such as pneumonia and especially COVID-19. The bronchoscope is portable and, if necessary, can be used at the patient’s hospital bed in any department, therefore allowing for a bronchoscopy to be carried out quickly.
“Each patient on mechanical ventilation requires regular examination and cleaning of the lungs from the contents, which clogs the bronchi and impairs respirator function. Now the quality of diagnostics will improve significantly and the duration of the procedures will be reduced. This is very important for patients undergoing mechanical ventilation,” says Igor Stoyanovsky, deputy chief physician for surgical work at the 8th city clinical hospital. “Using a bronchoscope you can take samples for PCR examination from the lower respiratory tract, which improves the quality of diagnostics since the sample from the trachea and bronchi contains a high concentration of biomaterial,” adds Stoyanovsky.
Lviv 8th City Clinical Hospital is a multidisciplinary intensive care institution, temporarily redesigned to provide assistance to patients with severe pneumonia and suspected coronavirus. Up to 13,000 patients are treated there annually and up to 800 rehabilitation bronchoscopies for patients are performed in the intensive care unit.
As part of its ongoing charity programme, Arterium helps medical institutions in Ukraine by transferring medicines, equipment and protective equipment for doctors.
“Timely and high-quality diagnosis is an important component of effective treatment of patients with coronavirus. The acquisition of a modern bronchoscope for the 8th city clinical hospital is another step in the comprehensive assistance of Arterium Corporation to healthcare institutions during this difficult period,” comments Oksana Stefanova, head of the public relations department of the Arterium Corporation.
In order to support the fight against the coronavirus, Arterium has already transferred assistance to five of Lviv’s medical institutions in the form of around 5,000 pieces of protective equipment for personnel. Since April Arterium has been serving daily hot meals to doctors at the 8th City Clinical Hospital and the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital.
The Arterium Corporation hopes that all initiatives and efforts will help doctors defeat the disease quickly and maintain the health of Ukrainians.
